It doesn’t tell a story as much as it paints a mood. Different mediums, but John Prine creates with musical notes and words in the same way that Claude Monet created with pigments and colors.

…that you compare John Prine to an artist using strokes of the brush to draw emotional connection is appropriate… John Prine does the same with his voice and draws out the same kinds of colors as well…
I like “Some Humans Ain’t Human” on this album; but I like John Prine in general.
I like that song, too. I’ve fallen behind in my record collection. I have a lot of his earlier albums, but I’m listening to “Fair and Square” for the first time.
