Faith
“Praying to the Lord in situations of calamity (for Him to modify them) only demonstrates how little faith we have in the arrangements He is making in our lives. The Lord arranges everything in the life of his devotee by His own desire, without being influenced by any other factor. Why should a devotee then unnecessarily ruin his attitude of service, by praying in this direction and thus try to modify the mind of the Supreme Being?” ~Vallabhacarya (source)

“Allah knows exactly what to give you to help you return to Him.” ~Shaykh Hamza Yusuf
I like the above quotes, but faith is something I struggle with. In the material world, faith doesn’t matter; as Neil deGrasse Tyson put it, “The good thing about science is that it’s true whether or not you believe in it.” Gravity is going to pull you downward whether you have faith in it or not.
I can accept circumstances, but that’s not the same thing. I ground myself sometimes by saying to myself, “Well, here I am. What now?” I’m pretty good at recognizing reality and reacting reasonably.
It would be nice, though, to have a little more faith that there was a reason behind all this nonsense.
